Just as I have a favorite composer, I also have a favorite architectural element: the arch. (Professionally, I write about architecture and design, so I often notice details on buildings.) What I like most about arches — whether they are structural, architectural, just a design element, or some combination of those three — is the sense they give of both concealing and revealing what’s beyond them.

Ah! It all makes sense now. I’m thinking back to other pictures you’ve taken and the close-ups and angles of buildings. I had no idea you write about architecture. Now wonder you always capture such exquisite elements in your pictures. These arches are no exception.

I like arches too. Quite often take photos through them and often draw them. They are fascinating. Lovely pictures here.

Great arches! The garden path looks so peaceful. We like arches so much that we included a natural arch picture in our website’s Adventure travel page: http://bit.ly/QQ3cYJ
Safe travels!

Beautiful photgraphy! Love the canal one best. Wonder why we’re drawn to arches and curves in architecture? Something about the rounded form . . . hmmmm

Seems an arch is a shape that creates so many other shapes and possibilities.

I’m with you. Arches are so elegant. I never tired of the architectural structures in Europe.

Beautiful set! I love this collection of around-the-world arches. You have traveled to some incredible places. I really need to start paying more attention to architectural details when traveling. My favorites are the garden and canal.

I too am drawn to arches! Have many in my new house. What is the deeper meaning of this propensity? I wonder.

I, too, love arches. The other week I was in St. Louis, and I took a picture of the Gateway Arch as seen through the arch from the Metro station.
